Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a chronic anxiety disorder most commonly characterized by obsessive, distressing, intrusive thoughts and related compulsions. Compulsions are tasks or “rituals” which attempt to neutralize the obsessions.
Repetitive behaviors (such as handwashing, checking, counting, or cleaning) are often performed to prevent obsessive thoughts or making them go away.
